I’ll be disappointed to see Stern leave broadcasting for satellite radio. I find him entertaining, in small doses. And as he himself told USA Today, he is (believe it or not) somewhat restrained on-air. I think part of his entertainment is in how he deals with ‘the rules’ of broadcasting in the USA, how he flirts with the envelope without usually crossing the line. I think he’ll be less entertaining on satellite: grosser, more vulgar, gratuitous profanity (he compared himself with comedian Chris Rock), just like Opie and Anthony in other words.
BTW, why isn’t satellite content regulated like “terrestrial”? It’s just a different portion of the spectrum that “we the people” own….
I just want to go on the record opposing the concentration of ownership of mass media. It means the end of local radio as we have known it, and fewer journalistic voices too. It also accentuates the explosion in conservative talk radio of the last 20 years, at the expense of mainstream and liberal voices.
Wait a minute: That’s just what they want, isn’t it! Damn.
