ONTARIO PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVE PARTY
Their “History of Our Party” page provides a good overview of Canadian Progressive Conservatism at its best, except for some of the more recent PC ministries. American-style “neoconservatism/neoliberalism” really tore at the old PC Party nationally before it succumbed to Reform/Alliance. Though they say the new Ont. PC leader, John Tory (!) is more Red Tory again…. Otherwise, Red Tories have gravitated to the “Liberal” Party as the lesser of evils – at least it retains a progressive aspect. I tend to prefer the labor/social-democratic New Democratic Party myself (not to be confused with U.S. DLC “new Democrats”!!!), though not their dominant (small-R) republicanism or constitutional reformism.
(NB: ISTM Canadian provincial parties operate more independently of their national affiliates than do U.S. state Democratic or Republican parties…even down to naming. In reality, it seems the provincial “Conservative” Parties are more Red Tory than the federal one!)
