Why single out Charlie Rangel?

Something’s fishy here, the timing and everything.  And I mean oily-fishy, if you get my meaning.  They all do these things.  What about all those Repugs who “disgraced Congress” for a dozen years in charge, and took corruption to whole new levels, and had no “trials” or “hearings,” basically got away with it?  They made what Rangel’s accused of look like child’s play!  And what ever happened to going after all the Bush White House lawbreakers, even W. himself, Cheney, Gonzales, Ashcroft, Powell, etc etc etc?!  (So much for their “Christian nation”!)  Some of us only voted for Obama/Biden because of that promise — not revenge, merely justice, The Rule of Law.  Rangel’s charges are little worse than Lewinskygate.  But the MSM will hype this to the hilt, 24/7, we’ll have a special prosecutor who’ll find some link to Obama-Girl, and “What will we tell the children!”

What we’ll tell them is that there really are Two Americas, like de jure 47th Vice-President of the USA* John Edwards said.  But I’d describe them this way: One America of Law, “for the little people,” and Another America Free of Law, for BP and Verizon and Comcast and Corporate lobbyists and Republicans and Teabaggers and militiamen.

But a progressive senior Black Democrat in the leadership, selling out to Big Business?  As Andy Samberg’s Rahm Emmanuel would say, “You f*ing turncoat!”

(*–Lieberman was 46th, not Cheney.)

Terror, Health care

How long have we been running from (alleged) terrorists and lacking healthcare?:

(For the blogger’s actual video, go here though.)

PS: Like Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ puffy shirt and hair there in 1984!  It’s eerie how young she sounds, though.  And God be good to Gilda…

Sarah Palin, meet Jean Poutine!

UPDATE: Found a mostly-usable form of the video from 22 Minutes, not on their site but at YouTube.  I dunno, but did anyone hear what Palin actually said the same way I did?  In fairness, I didn’t hear “dismantle,” only that the government should share the market with the private sector, IOW a single (big) step backwards, not the giant leap.  No difference though.  “Commonsense conservatism”?  Sweetheart, it left the U.S. during/after the Revolution, and remained among Canada’s Red Tories until they lost their party in the Harper/Reform takeover a couple years ago.  And Sarah and Steve ain’t it!

The other thing I noticed is that, while the lovable “Marg Delahunty” (OK, I really can’t take the voice, but admire her “all lies” review of the book!!) was woman-handled out of the library, her camera crew was allowed to stay.  PURE PHOTO-OP!  No questions, just pictures.  I hope Muscle-Melon wasn’t on the public payroll facilitating that ‘un-campaign’ appearance for Palin.

ORIGINAL: That’s right, the Canadians who ‘punked’ W. got last week what may be the only policy remarks Alaska’s disgraced, resigned, unqualified, eye-candy governor will allow herself to be drawn on involuntarily, unscripted, during her eternal, fluff book tour/photo-op … and her own country is not the subject (nor is Russia!): ‘Yup, yup,’ like most self-important Republican politicos, she’s now become an expert on Canada’s model single-payer healthcare system — and all she cares about is corporate profiteering instead, and RATIONING on the basis of wealth, Whiteness, suburban residence, non-Indigenous status, etc.

If that’s “going rogue,” then John McCain’s a maverick!  The free ride she’s been getting from the MSM ever since her (losing) nomination is a danger to America and the world, because the hard right wing will back her as their savior just to feel they get back in power, even if she doesn’t know what to do with it in any way that will benefit, apparently, anyone other than CEOs and wealthy stockholders … short-term, anyway….  TALK ABOUT “DEATH PANELS”!!!  ‘Whose plug would Jesus pull?’

Sorry I missed SNL!

Great open with help from “Tina Fey glasses“!!! “Sexy librarian thing”!!!!

(How come Palin has a Chicago-Milwaukee accent, anyway?!)

Palin, The Church Lady

Oh my gosh, I can hardly bear to listen to Palin give her sermon, er, speech, at the Convention!  That squeaky, contemptuous, self-righteous, bitchy, smart-assy, pretentious, pursed-lipped delivery – wow, is that what her family, Wasilla, and Alaska have been putting up with? – reminds me of nothing less than Dana Carvey’s “Church Lady” from those old Saturday Night Live “Church Chat” bits“We like ourselves, don’t we.  We think we’re just a liiiiittle bit superior.  Who could’ve put that idea into our heads, hm?: SATAN?!”  They’ve got to have him/her back for their season premiere on Sept. 13.

Palin turns out to be one of those “hot” girls you just want nothing to do with.  Y’know, sometimes you got the idea that you wouldn’t mind “having a beer” with The Church Lady after all was said and done … but not this one!  If she shakes that finger at us one more time, it’s gonna fly off!

Look, my only concern is that they’re gonna steal this election like the last few, then McCain croaks or goes PTSD something, and she’ll have her finger on the button, that itchy NRA / Millenialist trigger finger.  Her own Alaska fellow-Republicans don’t consider her ready to govern the 49th most populous state in the Union, with fewer people (and services, is my impression) than many Lower 48 cities and counties, let alone the whole Nation!  Could Obama turn chilly Alaska Blue?!!

And her much-anticipated speech wasn’t even personal, just boilerplate “masculine,” mostly pre-written for her by the campaign?  Not knowing her, I want to hope so, but “conservative” women can get pretty nasty just the same – though not all.

And what’s this about coddling Alaskan secessionists, even having been one?  I would like to be wrong, but I think they’re anti-Native too – ironically, since she’s married to one!

And the McCain campaign is hiding her from news interviews … leaving journalists no choice but to mine her past.  Who’s being “combative” now?  Look, a political convention is offered to the media as a “feeding frenzy”: if you don’t throw them something, they’ll find something!

I don’t mind Obama/Biden having to run against McCain/Palin, because it’s a slam dunk.  Like I say, I’m just concerned about what’s probably gonna happen: either the polls will “mysteriously” “surge” Red in the last week of the campaign, or there’ll be a “mysterious” post-survey Red swing in the election “results” … with massive vote suppression / Jim Crow tactics, “mysterious” e-voting techs messing around the machines, “voter-fraud fraud,” media Red spin, “mysterious” media and survey changes, all the stuff we’ve gotten used to since 2000.  Maybe even another unConstitutional federal court intervention … except this time the bench ruling will be 6-3 instead of 5-4, thanks to Bush’s GOP partisan appointees.  (And remember, it was Bush who went to court, not President Gore, hence “Bush v. Gore,” not “Gore v. Bush.”)

PS: Isn’t it funny how the Republicans are now the Reds, what with them calling us Communist all those years?  I think somebody did that on purpose….

Al Gore on SNL: Perspective

Just in case you forgot what’s at stake in ’08 – easy to do – this video postcard from two years ago this month from the de jure 43rd President of the United States.

Rethinking Obama’s electability

Have we miscalculated?  The opening bit on Saturday Night Live two weeks ago scared me a little.  Look at it this way: Every ‘Racist for Hillary’ and other Clinton supporter who votes for McCain in November takes not one but two votes away from Obama, because they reduce us by one and increase them by one.  Whereas, in cold calculus, every Obama supporter – of any race or class or educational level – who stays home in November takes only one vote away from us.  So it may not be ‘democratic’ or just or politically correct, but each of some number of Hillary backers may be worth two Obama backers.

Somebody should probably do the math via the primary exit polls (as reliable as they may be), add a grain of salt, and figure out who the party’s elected leaders, the ex officio or so-called superdelegates, should favor, since it’s being thrown to them.  If whatever the result of the nomination process is, is favored by numerical evidence, that could be a big help.

Or maybe not.

(Also note that if the Repugs steal this one again, none of the above matters much, except for the history books.)

(PS–Isn’t Amy Poehler absolutely versatile?!  I didn’t notice her much till she joined “Update” after Jimmy Fallon [“NOMAAAAH”] left.  So listen Ames, if things don’t work out with what’s-his-name….)
